Program Explanation
The City of Tamarac is committed to removing any service line from our distribution system that is not in compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s and other applicable regulations. As such, the City is working to identify all service lines within the City’s distribution system and will remove all out-of-compliance lines, if found, before the EPAs 2034 deadline.
In addition to removing all out-of-compliance service lines, Tamarac is reducing possible lead exposure to customers by:
- Checking the water system for lead twice a year in accordance with state and federal environmental regulations
- Using Optimal Water Quality Parameters (required by Broward County) and/or a corrosion control treatment system, which helps minimize the process of lead dissolving into the water from the service pipes and lead solder in household plumbing
- Testing the water on a weekly and monthly basis to make sure the corrosion control treatment systems are working properly
- Identifying unknown service lines in its distribution system to ensure that there are no out-of-compliance lines within Tamarac. If you receive notification from the city that you have a service line of unknown material, you can help this effort by having a plumber identify your service line. Once you identify your service line material, please report your findings to the City’s Public Services Department (see the “Contact Us” page for contact information).
